Though Multiple-Choice Question(MCQ) is known to offer easier and faster methods inexamination scoring and assessment, it has majordisadvantage of fixed responses which tend to emphasizerecall and encourage guessing. Assessment systemsnormally should generate responses that have the potentialto show originality and a greater depth of understanding ofthe learning contents. This paper presents integrated onlineassessment systems as a remedy to MCQ limitations. TheOnline Examination architecture developed and the modelformulated combined MCQ with other assessment systemssuch as Long answer(essay) questions, Short answer (fill inthe gap) questions,True/ false questions,Graphical (diagram–based) questions The discursive examination componentessay type uses double blind marking technique to assess theperformances in examination and the system model wasimplemented using Apache Server, PHP ProgrammingLanguage , HTML, Ajax, jQuery, Javascript and MySQLDatabase. become widespread, there is a growing need foreducators to consider modes of assessment [2], [3].According to [4], the benefits of online assessmentinclude student motivation, immediate feedback, assessto larger classes effectively [2].Majority of online realtime test centers are limited only to atomic, closed formassessmentunits, suchasMultipleChoiceQuestions(MCQ).Though MCQ tests offer greater efficiency in shortperiod and ease of assessment, however, have constraintsin terms of quality, validity, reliability and fairness.Major disadvantage of a multiple-choice item is that thefixed responses tend to emphasize recall and encourageguessing. This is not effective for testing true cognitiveknowledge of students because, students with poorknowledge of course concept can even pass theexamination. In addition to MCQ, Assessment systems also shouldrequire students showing full spectrum of competenciesby reading the answer carefully and looking for specificfeatures, such as clarity, logic, and key points amongothers. This allows students to generate responses thathave the potential to show originality and a greater depthof understanding of the topic [5].This paper presents an integrated online assessmentsystem as a remedy to MCQ limitations.
