The PsbH protein, a small subunit of the photosystem IIcomplex (PSII),was identi®edas a6-kDaproteinband in thePSII core and subcore (CP47±D1±D2±cytb-559) from thewild-type strain of the cyanobacteriumSynechocystisPCC6803. The protein was missing in the D1±D2±cyto-chromeb-559 complex and also in all PSII complexesisolated from IC7, a mutant lacking the psbHgene.
