The three-dimensional crystal structure of recombinantannexin Gh1 fromGossypium hirsutum(cotton fibre) hasbeen determined and refined to the finalR-factor of 0.219 atthe resolution of 2.1 A˚. This plant annexin consists of thetypicalannexin fold and is similar to the previously solvedbell pepper annexinAnx24(Ca32), but significant differencesare seen when compared to the structure of nonplantannexins. A comparison with the structure of the mamma-lian annexin AnxA5 indicates that canonical calcium bind-ing is geometrically possible within the membrane loops indomains I andIIofAnx(Gh1) in theirpresent conformation....
