Again this issue ispublished around the same time as the Fourth China Day Event organised by the London ConfuciusInstitute (LCI) and SOAS Language Centre, and the Fourth Exhibition of Chinese Teaching Materials(both events are on Saturday 3 October 2009), in collaboration with Cypress Books (UK) Ltd.Chinese language learning and teaching has taken a big step forward over the last four years, andthis is evident not only from the numbers of students and institutions learning and teaching Chinese,but also by the quality and sources of contributions to this very journal over the same period of time.You will find in this journal a number of articles from teaching professionals outside of the schoolsector reflecting on issues that concern Chinese language learning and teaching across all areas (suchas the teaching of Chinese characters and pinyin), as well as by experienced teachers from Britishschools. It is hoped that these contributions will lead to more constructive discussions and debates onthe issues touched upon amongst practitioners in the field as a key goal of this journal is to facilitatethe exchange of views and experiences amongst colleagues. Moreover, the compositions by two A2students from non-Chinese backgrounds are simply amazing, and demonstrate that Chinese is bothlearnable and teachable, and not as unattainable as some fear. We solute all teachers working very hardto help their students learn Chinese, and fulfilling their high expectations in acquiring the languageand achieving excellent results.We hope that our readers, both students and teachers, will enjoy this ...
