Vietnamese students’ performance in speaking skill is usually the poorest. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating the underlying reasons which are due to their anxiety, inadequate experience in using English verbally, and a gap between their cognitive levels and proficiency levels. Finally, the paper suggests various tasks and activities to help students overcome these problems.
