The broad objective of research reported here was to develop a multi-publishing workflow for student atlases. To develop this workflow it was determined that the following research objectives needed to be satisfied: Investigate the historical context of student atlas publishing in Australia and determine how atlas design changed when technological and scientific developments were applied to publishing and cartography, such as offset printing or the development of GIS (Geographic Information Systems); Research literature on cartography to determine best practice in map design for print and the web.
