The abuse of amphetamines is of national concern from a public healthperspective. Review of this subject is timely and important, because theproblem of amphetamine-like drugs has recently been amplified by theintroduction of designer drugs in the illicit market. There has been anincreasing number of attempts by chemists in clandestine laboratories tosynthesize structurally altered congeners that might intensify the moodalteringproperty of this class of compounds.
