Aerobic granular sludge has been applied in batch reactors SBR since the 1970s and it has been extensively studied with different substances in the following years. Compared with activated sludge, aerobic granular sludge has a good granular structure, high biomass retention capacity, and ability to remove more toxic compounds in wastewater.
