In this work, evidence for the presence of ferritins in plantmitochondria is supplied. Mitochondria were isolated frometiolated pea stems andArabidopsis thalianacell cultures.The proteinswere separatedbySDS/PAGE.Aprotein, withan apparent molecular mass of approximately 25–26 kDa(corresponding to that of ferritin), was cross-reactedwith anantibody raised against pea seed ferritin. The mitochondrialferritin from pea stems was also purified by immunopre-cipitation.
