Inorder to clarify the role of cytochrome innitrate reductasewe have performed spectrophotometric and stopped-flowkinetic studies of reduction and oxidation of the cytochromehemes with analogues of physiological quinones, usingmenadione as an analogue of menaquinone and duro-quinone as an analogue of ubiquinone, and comparing theresults with those obtained with dithionite. The spectropho-tometric studies indicate that reduction of the cytochromehemes varies according to the analogue of quinoneused, andin no cases is it complete....
