Xanthomonas campestrispv.vitians is a Gram-negativeplant-associated bacterium that acts as causative agent ofbacterial leaf spot and headrot in lettuce. The lipopolysac-charide of this bacterium is suspected to be an importantmolecule for adhesion to and infection of the plants. Thelipopolysaccharide has been isolated from the phenol phaseand the O-specific chain characterized by compositionalanalysis, high fieldNMRandMALDI-TOFMS.
