The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) is subjected tomultiple interacting levels of control in plant cells. The firstlevel is subcellular compartmentation. Plant cells are uniqueinhaving twodistinct, spatially separated forms of the PDC;mitochondrial (mtPDC) and plastidial (plPDC). ThemtPDCis the site of carbon entry into the tricarboxylic acidcycle, while the plPDCprovides acetyl-CoAandNADHforde novofatty acid biosynthesis.
