Reconstitution of membrane proteins allows their study in amembrane environment that can be manipulated at will.Because membrane proteins have diverse biophysical pro-perties, reconstitution methods have so far been developedfor individual proteins on an ad hoc basis. We developed apostinsertion reconstitution method for CCR5, a G proteincoupled receptor, with seven transmembraneahelices andsmall ecto- and endodomains.
