Reading is a great way for people to gain knowledge at any ages. In order to improve the communicative skills indirectly through reading comprehension, readers must have reading comprehension skills to read academic materials. From the analysis of the English for Information Technology (IT) teaching and learning reality and challenges at Thai Nguyen University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the article analyzes or discusses the factors affecting to selected sophomore students’ performance in reading English for IT and the relationship between the factors at Thai Nguyen University of ICT, academic year 2010 – 2011 and proposes a number of suggestions to teach and learn ESP effectively.

Learning toread is one of the most importantaccomplishments that can be achieved duringones formal schooling. Reading thereforeshould become indispensable to peoplebecause if they do not learn reading especiallyin their younger years, they will surely finddifficulty in facing today’s challenging andcomplex society.The reading education of English LanguageLearners (ELL) has become one of the mostimportant issues in all of educational policyand practice. In the English classroom, specialemphasis has been given to the teaching ofreading, since the purpose of mostVietnamese learners learning English is toread texts in their special fields. Thus, toachieve the goal of mastering the content ofthe text and complete the enclosed tasks in thereading requirement, the learners shouldenhance their reading abilities. It is often verydifficult for the teachers of the foreign*Tel: 0988 939755language to successfully help their learnersduring the course of reading. It is obvious thatreading is given the most important skill forthe students of the Thai Nguyen University ofICT. Although English is not their major,most of them realized the importance ofEnglish, especially reading skill in futurework when they will have to explore andexploit various materials.In English for Specific Purposes (ESP), it isassumed [3] that the students are learning touse English as a study tool or researchlanguage. At the University level, readingcomprehension, therefore, plays a central role.This is particularly true in countries, wherethe medium of instruction is the mothertongue, but many essential textbooks andjournal articles are available in English. She always thinks about thestudents’ real needs and difficulties, and howto overcome them. In this study, theresearcher will focus on the readingcomprehension skills of the second yearstudents at Thai Nguyen University of ICT tofind out the learners’ problems andresolutions to improve the students’ readingabilities.
