The study was aimed to investigate the effects of awareness-oriented tasks with explicit pragmatic instruction on EFL (English Foreign Language) students’ competence to make requests at a university in Ho Chi Minh City. The idea was inspired by the realization that EFL students at the researcher’s university seemed incompetent to make requests in the classroom context and there had been few quasi-experimental studies in this trend of research.
