In this study, three-dimensional crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) simulations of the nanoindentation test on zinc single crystal have been implemented in the finite element code Abaqus using a user material subroutine. The basics of deformation mechanisms of zinc, nanoindentation test and crystal plasticity theory will be presented. Experimental and numerical data issued from nanoindentation response grains of distinct crystalline orientations such as basal, prismatic, and pyramidal, involving different slip systems activity rates are compared to evaluate the accuracy of the model.
