Reason for renovating the growth model- Effects from the world force Vietnam to renovate its economic growth model.So far, there have been several growth model emerged and replaced the old ones inthe world. Thereby, economic structure, in both national and international scale, hasbeen changed, particularly with product structure and business- National factors also set requirement for Vietnam to renovate its economicgrowth model. There are certain concernable matters of the old and the current growthmodel of Vietnam. First, the growth model has exposed some instability in terms ofeconomic development, such as: economic growth is more dependent on capitalgrowth, macroeconomic stability remains volatile, inflation rate is higher than growthrate, high interest rate, large trade deficits – particularly with some certain tradepartners, low foreign reserves, low rate of return on investment, low and slowgrowing labour productivity, lack of improvement with national competitiveness,insufficient attention paid to institutional reform targets2. The goals of growth model renovation in VietnamAs defined in the XI Party Plenum, the renovation of growth model in Vietnam is toachieve following goals:To restructure the economy with foci put on restructuring production andservices, accelerating renew of business development strategy, and enhancingproduct, business, and national economic competitivenessTo improve investment and business environment. To take part, in deeper andmore effective manner, in high value-added and high-tech phases of internationalproduction chains.To develop the diversification of industries for job creation and incomegeneration.In summary, the goals of growth model renovation in Vietnam include: to recovermacroeconomic growth, to enhance economic performance and competitiveness; andto maintain high and sustainable growth rate to avoid the middle income trap.3.
