The structure and membrane interaction of the internalfusion peptide (IFP) fragment of the avian sarcoma andleucosis virus (ASLV) envelope glycoprotein was studied byan array of biophysical methods. The peptide was found toinduce lipidmixing of vesicles more strongly than the fusionpeptide derived from the N-terminal fusion peptide ofinfluenza virus (HA2-FP). It was observed that the helicalstructure was enhanced in association with the modelmembranes, particularly in the N-terminal portion of thepeptide.According to the infraredstudy, thepeptide insertedinto themembrane in an oblique orientation, but less deeplythan the influenza HA2-FP....
